JIMMY MACK FOR SOUTHAMPTON TOWN TRUSTEE

Raised in Westhampton Beach, currently living in Southampton, Jimmy Mack has led a life of service to this beautiful community we call home. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, STAR Aqua Center, Southampton Village Ocean Rescue, and the Moriches Bay Project. He has served his community as a volunteer EMT for two decades. And now he wants to put his passion for the Hamptons and its abundant natural resources to work on the Southampton Town Trustee Board.

“As trustee, I would like to strengthen partnerships with local organizations such as the Moriches Bay Project, Stony Brook Marine Science Center, the Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Baykeeper, and the Peconic Estuary Partnership. By connecting residents with these groups, we can broaden awareness of water quality issues and encourage volunteer involvement. I would also prioritize outreach to beach drivers, reminding them of their responsibilities: avoiding sensitive dune areas, respecting nesting habitats, and sharing the beach safely with other users. With proper management and community cooperation, we can preserve this tradition while protecting our beaches.”

Jimmy

Jimmy Mack grew up on Seafield Point in Westhampton Beach in a home surrounded by water, directly across from Rogers Beach. (The house is now owned by his brother Billy Mack.) His first job was ocean lifeguarding there at age 17. He graduated from Westhampton Beach High School in 1975, then from Boston University in 1980. In 1981, he moved into Manhattan where he had a career in advertising until 1992. Jimmy left Manhattan in October 1992 to enter Seafield Center, the drug and alcohol rehab located on the very street he had grown up on. He has been sober ever since. Jimmy walked away from his 28-day stay at Seafield with an overwhelming understanding that in order to stay sober, he had to make community service his number one priority. As a man living with HIV, Jimmy poured his efforts into charities like GMHC, God‘s Love We Deliver, ACT-UP, and Love Heals, the Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education. He spent 15 years as an HIV-positive speaker for Love Heals, sharing his inspirational story to thousands of middle and high school students throughout the tri-state area.

He began a full-time job on Robins Island in 1995 and lived in Flanders for several years before moving to Sag Harbor. He has continued to work on both Robins Island and Cow Neck Farms since 1995. Jimmy currently lives in North Sea with his husband Brian and rescue dog Sammy.

In 2004, after experience a life-threatening allergic reaction to a new HIV medication, Jimmy was taken to Southampton Hospital by the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance. To “pay it forward,“ Jimmy joined SVA in 2005, and became an EMT. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Last year, Jimmy was awarded the Suffolk County Healthcare Hero of the Year for 2024 as well as the SVA EMT of the Year.

In his two decades of service to our community as an EMT, Jimmy has been on thousands of EMS calls and has already been on over 200 EMS calls in 2025.

Ten years ago, while working with the Moriches Bay Project, Jimmy secured a $10,000 donation from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which helped MBP to seed Moriches Bay with thousands of oysters and turn the bay into the vibrant, thriving bay we have today. Jimmy and his husband Brian currently serve on the advisory board for the Moriches Bay Project.

Five years ago, Jimmy joined the Board of Directors of the STAR Aqua Center, a nonprofit dedicated to building a much-needed community pool. He currently serves as their secretary on the executive Board of Directors.

Two years ago, Jimmy was thrilled to join Southampton Village Ocean rescue where he currently serves as Lieutenant.

Now Jimmy would like to turn his passion for community service to the Southampton Town Trustees. He wants to join them in their tradition of protecting Southampton‘s waterways and public access.
