Truth is that which is true in accordance with facts or reality.
Trust on the other hand, is a firm belief in the character, strength, or Truth of someone or something.
Truth and Trust go hand in hand. They are the glue that holds society together.
Recently deceased Republican statesman George P. Schultz said that Trust was the key to getting good things to happen.
George Orwell’s 1984 foretold the demise of Truth and the rewriting of history.
With the prevalence of “alternative facts” and outright brazen lying, it is small wonder that there is a lack of trust in our politics today.
QAnon adds a new surreal dimension to lying with an alternative reality and mind numbing conspiracy theories.
Then we have The Big Lie about fraud in the 2020 Election. It led to most Republican Congressmen failing to certify President Biden’s electoral victory.
Finally, we have a large group of Republicans who are trying to rewrite the events of the storming of the Capitol on January 6. Of course FOX News is pushing the revisionist version of the day’s events.
They are brazenly spinning their lies in spite of the fact that the whole world watched the frightening sacking of the Capital on live TV
We Democrats are far from perfect.
However, at this point in time the Republican Party is no longer adhering to facts and the truth. Rather, they have become a cult that is only interested in attaining and keeping power by any and all means.
Perhaps, some day, the Republican Party will revert to its once proud traditions. I sincerely hope so.
In the meantime, we Democrats are guarding the gates from the barbarians.
